Charles M. Huber is best known for his role as police superintendent Henry Johnson in the television series "Der Alte," in English, "The Old Fox." Now 57, he's been a Christian Democrat member of the German parliament since 2013.

El Parlamento alemán ha dejado de ser monocolor. Desde este lunes forman parte de él dos afroalemanes, los primeros rostros negros en el Bundestag. Antes del 22 de octubre, fecha límite para constituir la nueva Cámara, estrenarán su escaño Charles M. Huber, democristiano, y Karamba Diaby, socialdemócrata, dos alemanes de origen senegalés.

Diaby abandonó Senegal en 1985 becado para hacer un doctorado en la entonces Alemania comunista. Estudió Químicas, se casó y comenzó a militar en las filas socialdemócratas en el 2008 y hacer política municipal en Halle, en el profundo Este alemán. Sufrió en su propia carne la persecución de neonazis y, sin embargo, se declara muy agradecido a la sociedad alemana. El caso de Charles M. Huber es menos espectacular. Hijo de una alemana y un senegalés, este actor de profesión nació en Múnich. Solo su aspecto delata que tiene raíces extranjeras.

The recent general election in Germany that returned Angela Merkel to the Chancellery for her third straight term made history in other ways as well – the country elected its first two black members of the Bundestag (parliament). Charles Huber, a member of Merkel’s center-right Christian Democrat Union Party and a former TV actor, who was elected in the southern town of Darmstadt, and Karamba Diaby from the leftist  Social Democrat party, who will represent the eastern town of Halle, have joined the Bundestag in Berlin.

For the first time, Germany has elected black lawmakers into the Bundestag, Parliament’s lower house. One was Mr. Diaby, a member of the Social Democrats, from Senegal, and the other is Charles M. Huber, a former actor with a Senegalese father and a German mother.
